about
This song was inspired by an excellent book called "Tincture: An Apocalyptic Proposition," which is the first book in a sci-fi trilogy by Matthew Jordan. He bet me I would never finish it. It took like, 12 years, but I did it, so bite me.
Awake, alive again
Tethered to an unfamiliar skin
And I fear the worst
If the years don't take us first
The rust inside our blood, it surely will
So I bit the bullet and I bellied the bomb
I leapt into the breach and I bloodied up my tongue
And I escaped the beast by the skin of my teeth
And the fire in my lungs
And the smoke of a thousand blazing guns
But I can't shake this sinister shade of what's to come
And I beg the gods, forgive us
We know not what we have done
We are not strangers here
We are the ghosts of those who've come before
Now left to linger
Among the soil, the sorrow and decay
So we drag our dreary bones another day
But I can't shake this sinister shade of what's to come
And I beg the gods, forgive us
We know not what we have done
To exist in this illusion
Until all that's left of us
Is smoke and cinder, ash and dust
You will find only silence here
No trace of our salvation here
Among the soil, the sorrow and decay
So we drag our dreary bones
